I have handed over Nigeria’s Treasury to Women, says Buhari

In a meeting with the delegates of the APC women leaders, led by the National Women Leader, Hajia Salamatu Umar-Eluma, Buhari stated that he has strategically handed over the treasury of the country to women as he strongly believes that women are the best financial managers.

This he said after the women, at the meeting with Buhari, thanked him for appointing seven women as ministers and for entrusting some key ministries, such as the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning to women.

The punch reports that Buhari subsequently affirmed his confidence in women’s managerial abilities, a strategic reason for appointing a woman as his finance minister.

According to him, appointing women ensures effective management of limited resource.

He said “I am happy that I can defend myself very effectively on this issue. The APC leader is my witness. Since the coming into power of this administration, I have handed over the treasury to women.

“Even at household level, you hand over the money to women to manage. It can be taken to the level of managing the country’s treasury as well. I have consistently given it to women. It is strategic.

I am conscious of the leadership roles of women in the society and by my action, I have justified my belief.”
