Some residents of Oyo State on Monday gave the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari a pass mark in his first year in office.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that the administration was sworn in on May 29, 2015 and marked one year on Sunday.
Alalade Ismail, a civil servant in Oyo West Local Government Area, said the administration had laid solid foundation for the future.
“So much challenges when the government assumed office, but it has been able to stabilize and lay solid foundation on many fronts.
“I have no doubt that things will get better with time especially with this solid ground that has been laid by the government“, he said.
Seun Olokode, a business centre operator from Saki East, said “past administrations had done so much injustice to this country and it will take time to heal.”
Mrs Kahdijat Mikail, a retired civil servant, urged Nigerians to be patient with the new administration, adding that “it will take time to re-build what was destroyed for 16 years.
“I have taken my time to study the present situation of things and compared with past governments, you will see that this is the best in recent years.
“Looted funds are been recovered and things are being done in a very transparent way and manner, that is what we expect from a listening-government.
“I‘m convinced that the administration started well“, she said. (NAN)
In Bwari, Abuja, Dr Dickson Akoh, National Commandant, Peace Corps of Nigeria, urged Nigerians to be patient with their expectations from Buhari’s change agenda.
Akoh gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bwari.
He observed that there were diverse opinions about the success or failure of the Buhari-led administration as it marked its first anniversary on Sunday.
Akoh, therefore, advised that for a meaningful and desirable change in the country, Nigerians must be patient and considerate in their expectations.
“As far as I am concerned, one year is both short and long.
“It can be short for people that have high expectation that by now the president should have delivered on his change mandate.
“The long aspect of it is an administration that met challenges on ground; the daily security revelations alone should tell Nigerians that the situation demands thorough planning to move on.
“As far as I am concerned, the administration has now proceeded on laying a solid foundation in order to place Nigeria on the rightful pedestal.
“We must be patient because it is the first time an opposition party would be taking the mantle of leadership after 16 years; such requires time to plan to move the nation forward”, he said.
He appealed to those thinking that the administration should have delivered on its promises within one year to be objective in their criticism of the government.
“If a person has four years tenure, you do not expect him to discharge and achieve his mandate at once.
“Give him the remaining three years to justify and deliver his promise; the challenges in leadership are enormous; to overcome them, you need strategic planning to achieve target”, he added.
