The Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately resign over his inability to curtail the security challenges bedevilling the nation.

The Abia South senator made the call on Wednesday while contributing to a motion sponsored by the Majority Leader, Sen. Yahaya Abdullahi. Abdullahi’s motion centred on rising insecurity in the country.

Abaribe described the Buhari administration’s attitude towards insecurity in the country as surprising, saying that the president has proved incapable of solving the challenges.

According to him, the Federal Government under Buhari has continued to claim defeat of Boko Haram while the terror group continues to kill and maim Nigerians.

The senator added that because of this “propaganda”, the hard work that should be put in to contain the menace has not been done.

He added that since the All Progressives Congress (APC) has decided to live by propaganda, the party must prepare to die by propaganda.

“Those who live on propaganda shall die by propaganda.

“Defeat is staring us on the face.

“Nigerians did not elect the Chief of Staff, Nigerians did not elect heads of Security, Nigerians elected President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and in 2019.

“As it is, we are facing the head of the Nigerian government and this is President Buhari. He should resign with immediate effect,” Abaribe said.

Abaribe’s comment immediately sent the house into commotion, with Abdullahi describing the Minority Leader’s submissions as unnecessary.

The Senate President, Sen. Ahmed Lawan, also cautioned the Abia South senator, saying that the matter at hand should not be politicised.
