President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Burkina Faso’s President, Roch Marc Christian Kabore on his re-election for a second five-year term in office.

President Buhari conveyed his congratulations in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu on Friday.

The Herald had reported that Kabore won the November 22 presidential election in the West African country by garnering nearly 58 per cent of the total valid votes according to provisional results issued on Thursday by the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI).

In a reaction welcoming the victory in Abuja on Friday, President Buhari said, “I am pleased with the peaceful outcome of the election in which the voters of Burkina Faso renewed your mandate for another five years in office.”

According to the Nigerian leader, “winning a second term is a vote of confidence, but it also brings bigger challenges for leaders to work even harder to make life better for their citizens.”

The President also advised the re-elected Burkina Faso’s President to put partisanship aside and work for all Burkinabes, regardless of who voted for or against him, saying that “at this point, you’re no longer the leader of your party but the leader of Burkina Faso.”
