Lai Mohammed, minister for information has come out to defend the President’s numerous foreign trips saying they are of benefit to Nigeria.

The President will be in the UK today to attend an anti-corruption summit along with 59 other world leaders to sign a pact that stops the participating countries from being safe haven for criminals who steal money and attempt to get away with it by traveling to another country.

The President who has gone on quite a number of trips since he took office has come under a lot of criticism for these trips, but the information minister has said the trips are necessary as they attract the confidence of world powers who can then go on to help Nigeria.

Mohammed said this spoke on a Liberty Radio and Television live programme, tagged Guest of the Week in Kaduna.

He said that it was wrong for people to believe that he takes such trips for pleasure as with his age such things no longer mattered but that he went on the trips due to his passion for serving his country.

“Many world leaders are saying now that Nigeria has a leader with integrity, they have the confidence to discuss with us even on the issue of the looted funds, so sending a representative cannot achieve that much,” he said.
