Buhari’s Killers: What Mbaka Failed To Say

Controversial catholic cleric, Father Ejike Mbaka recently disclosed that there is an attempt on President Muhammad Buhari’s life.

The cleric, ranting in a recent video from a sermon he delivered to Catholic faithfuls present, said the President’s life was in danger due to the growing animousity by corrupt politicians towards his anti-corruption stance.

“Our past…not our past leaders, our past looters, you may not understand, looters, embezzlers pissed on the political positions, have eaten the cake of this country and now everybody is suffering it,” he said.

The cleric said I want to tell you that so far, God is happy with Buhari. And him whom God has blessed, may you not try to accurse, because God will curse you,” said the priest.

“Many people are planning, as it is revealed, to kill him. There are many plans on how to eliminate his life so that corruption will continue, so that quantum embezzlement will continue.

“But the Lord says ‘God who put you there will not forsake you. Be firm, be resolute, remain focused, and be unbiased. Refuse to be intimidated and refuse to be distracted. Go ahead and war against evil. President Buhari, go ahead and war against corruption. President Buhari, God and his people are behind you, you are the answer of the prayers of the people, amen.’”

Father Mbaka seemed to have forgotten that President Buhari is also a past leader, and is in alliance with many past leaders (on state, federal and local levels) and they all have records of their public service, both past and present, in plain view of the public.

What the cleric did not say was that many Nigerians are fiercely disappointed and murderously angry with this government not only due to its botched economic policies, but also due to the selective nature of the anti-corruption fight. Over 50% of the current members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are formerl members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN); Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) or another somehow misleading acronym.

But be certain all parties harbored corrupt elements. Even the very members of the President’s cabinet and some of his closest allies and advisors have the aroma of political corruption floating around them, and are only immune to prosecution and/or further scrutiny because of the positions they now possess in this new political dispensation. Father Mbaka forgot to remind the President that evil communication corrupts good manners.
Certainly the prophet who sees the alleged killers conspiring should have seen other scriptures that would cause to him to advise the President on the need to put his own house in order.

Instead what we have is silence on the part of this cleric and intolerance, and selective prosecution of actual and perceived political, professional and social enemies by the executive. Perhaps Father Mbaka would  do well to preach to President Muhammad Buhari on the virtues of forgiveness and why the President must not hesitate to free a man imprisoned for naming his best friend after him in Ogun state to the disdain of his Nigerien neighbour.

Mbaka did not see the need for that and thus he is yet to say it, but what the man of God must realize is that Nigerians are waiting and watching as another election cycle is quickly approaching. What will be the story in 2019, if the economy is still tethering, and quality of life is near all-time lows?

Nigerians will support the Federal Government should they see signs of quality of life improvement. Not all these stories from the pulpit, even if its Sunday.

May God grant the President and his cheerleaders life to witness those moments. For the sake of Nigeria, may we see prosperity and posterity.
However the House of God and its teachers must eschew sycophancy and political tithe requests because the voice of the people is the voice of God, so the voice of the cleric must sound familiar to the people.
