“In a saner clime, Burna Boy and his crew would’ve been arrested” – Reactions trail Club Cubana shooting

Some Nigerians have demanded the arrest of Grammy Award-winning musician, Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy over the role he played in a shooting that allegedly occurred at a popular Lagos club on Wednesday.

They made the demand while reacting to the incident on Twitter on Sunday.

An American returnee and a friend were reportedly hospitalised as a result of bullet wounds sustained when a police orderly attached to the musician shot inside Club Cubana, Lekki.

According to the Punch, quoting the Bar Beach Police Division, Burna Boy had visited the popular club in the company of five police orderlies.

Four of the policemen reportedly stayed outside the club while one of them identified as Inspector Ibrahim, who was in mufti, accompanied the singer inside the club.

Burna Boy, who sat in the VIP section with three women, was said to have sighted another woman in another section of the club.

He asked the policeman to invite her to join him but the woman’s husband, who was with his friends, rebuked the policeman.

The musician was said to have made the same request after a little while.

This was said to have infuriated the woman’s husband, with whom she went to the club, leading to an altercation during which the policeman brought out his pistol and shot several times.

The musician was said to be laughing as the incident unfolded.

The bullet reportedly hit 27-year-old Lawrence in the thigh while his friend, Tolu, was hit in the head. This caused a commotion in the club.

Burna Boy and his crew then drove off to one of his properties at the Elegushi end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway before leaving for Lekki Phase 1, the report stated.

“Aware of what he had done, Burna Boy took the next flight out without even informing the policemen. He only made a video call to them to inform them that he had travelled to Spain. All his police escorts have been arrested and are currently at the Command headquarters,” the Punch quoted a top source at the office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police as saying.

Meanwhile, many Nigerians took to social media to berate the musician for his conduct, while some demanded his arrest and prosecution.
