A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered that a 26-year- old cashier, Odey Thomas, be remanded in Kuje Prison of a charge of absconding with a customer’s game prize of N247, 000.

The Judge, Mr Abdullahi Garba, ordered that Thomas, who works wit Betnija, a game, remain in Kuje Prison until July 28.

Thomas, who resides at Lugbe Zone 9 Airport Road, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecuting counsel, Ukaoha Ndidi, told the court that one Osita Mbaka of Citec Estate, Jabi Abuja, reported the matter at Lugbe Police Station.

Ndidi told the court that the complainant employed the defendant to work at his Betnija shop located at Lugbe.

She said that the defendant on April 24 criminally and deceitfully collected N247, 000 from his boss to pay a customer who won Betnija game.

She alleged that the defendant collected sum, converted it to his personal use and smartly absconded to an unknown destination.

The prosecutor said during police investigation Thomas could not give satisfactory account of the money and all efforts made to recover it proved abortive.

According to her, the offences contravene sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code; which attract five years imprisonment or fine.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
