Senator for Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani has advised governors in the north to develop animal husbandry as an avenue for creating wealth for the region.

He stated this in a tweet on Tuesday while reacting to clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers and recent eviction notices issued to herdsmen in some states of Southern Nigeria.

Sani, who described cattle as the “crude oil of the north”, said it was high-time the northern governors recalled the nomadic herdsmen back to the north and developed the cattle breeding industry.

He highlighted some nations that continue to earn billions of dollars from the rearing of cattle and cultivation of its bye-products, noting that the north could also benefit same.

The socio-political commentator wrote, “The cattle is the crude oil of the North.

“Recall the herdsmen back home, develop the industry and create wealth.

“Germany earned $4.6 billion from the export of cheese. Australia earned $7.6 from beef, New Zealand earned $6.3 billion from milk. Ireland $1.2 billion from butter.”
