CCTV Camera Catches 2 Employees Stealing N1.25m Goods

Two employees, Femi Adesanya and Idowu Ogunneye, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing goods worth N1.2 million.

Adesanya, 28, a resident of Ojota and Ogunneye, 34, who resides at Surulere, Lagos are being tried for conspiracy and stealing which they pleaded not guilty.

The Police prosecutor; Sgt. Godwin Awase told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 17 at Ogba, Lagos.

He said that the accused conspired and stole the goods belonging to Jumai Service Ltd.

“The accused stole PS4 games, four televisions, home theatre, microwave, a kettle, two laptop bags, cutlery, one cylinder among other items valued at N1.2million.”

Awase said that on that fateful morning when the complainant discovered that its goods had been stolen; it played the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera to detect the culprits.

“When the company discovered that thieves had carted away some of its goods, the CCTV camera that was secretly installed in the company was played.

“The CCTV footage showed the accused moving those items from the company into a truck.

“Some of those items were recovered in the accused houses while some had already been sold.

“The accused were handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.

The offences contravened Sections 287(7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287(7) prescribes seven years jail term for stealing while section 411 attracts two years for conspiracy.

Magistrate Mrs F.F George granted the accused bail of N300, 000 each with two sureties each who should be gainfully employed and show evidences of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Further hearing has been fixed for Nov. 19. (NAN)
