Certain Anaesthetic Gases Can Cause Sudden Death – Experts

Medical experts have warned doctors against the use of halothane and other dangerous anaesthetic gases because they can cause sudden death.

The experts who spoke during a forum organised by PathCare laboratories in Lagos said “Halothane gas is no longer used in developed countries due to the fact that it irritates the heart and causes myocardial arrhythmias and sudden death.”

Experts present at the event include Professor Abiodun Adewuya, a research fellow of the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College, UK; Professor Afolabi Lesi, Consultant and Dean, Faculty of Clinical sciences at the University of Lagos, Dr. Bosede Bukola Afolabi, a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologist, United Kingdom (UK and Dr. Babaseyi Oyesola, Consultant and Director, Practice Ventures UK.

They strongly advised that better gases should be used instead of Halothane Gas.
