Certificate Saga: Finally! Party Chairman Ask Court to Disqualify Buhari from Contesting

While the two major parties have been busy mud-slinging each other over the inability of incumbent President Buhari to present his academic certificates, a chairman of another party, the Action Peoples Party (APP) has taken action on the matter.

Mr. Ikenga Ugochinyere, chairman of the APP announced that he has filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja praying the court to disqualify President Muhammadu Buhari from contesting in the 2019 presidential election due to his constitutional ineligibility.

Ugochinyere who instituted the suit against the President also happens to be the spokesperson for the alliance of opposition parties under the umbrella of the Coalition of United political Parties.

Making a statement on Thursday, the APP stalwart said he also prayed the court to compel the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to produce the certified true copy of the ledger containing all the students of the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina in Katsina State, who sat for the 1961 examination alongside President Buhari.

The suit had been instituted by the plaintiff because of President Buhari’s continual insistence in the forms submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that he was unable to present any copy of the certificates of his academic qualifications because they were with the military board.

Excerpts from the statement read;

“The plaintiff is also seeking to nullify INEC’s publication of President Buhari’s name as one of the candidates for the 2019 election because he was not educated up to the minimum requirement and did not provide any evidence of his being educated up to at least school certificate level or its equivalent.”

The APP chairman however raised an alarm that APC chieftains were trying to hack into WAEC records and upload a result on behalf of the President.

He said the move is aimed at misleading the public in a desperate attempt to avoid the disqualification of President Buhari from the 2019 elections.

 “The opposition spokesperson called on WAEC to preserve their age-long integrity by resisting any move to doctor the results of students who sat for the 1961 exam.

This desperate last-minute attempt by the APC leadership is to avert the disgrace and humiliation their candidate will suffer at the ongoing lawsuit which they have no defence.” He added
