Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO): Urges newly elected public office holders to perform their duties

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), a civil society organisation, has urged political gladiators to give newly elected public office holders chance to perform in the country.

The Chairman of CLO Anambra Chapter, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, made the call while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday.

Ezekwueme noted that most public office holders had barely spent a few months after the 2019 General Elections; while some political gladiators had started agitating and pasting posters for 2023 elections and other futuristic elections.

“Political gladiators should call their overzealous supporters, praise singers and sycophants to desist and resist unprecedented campaign of calumny, hate speeches and casting aspersions on their opponents, especially current political officeholders.

“Aspirants and political parties must educate and re-orientated properly their adherents and fanatical supporters to toe the path of decency, decorum and civility,’’ he said.

The CLO boss also urged political gladiators and parties to educate their members and followers to show respect for constituted authorities.

“Once the election is over and winners announced, it is natural and more beneficial for all to support and back the elected public office holders to succeed for the good of the generality of the people.’’  (NAN)
