CJ reassigns Senate forgery case

The Chief Justice of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta has re-assigned the suit filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja by five members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, seeking the removal of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

The case which was previously assigned to Justice Adeniyi Ademola has as of Tuesday February 16, 2016 been re-assigned to Justice Evoh Chukwu based on an application seeking re-assignment of the case by Ekweremadu.

The Deputy Senate leader, Ike Ekweremadu filed the re-assignment application after Justice Ademola had heard the suit on December 14, 2015.

The five members of the All Progressive Congress responsible for the suit requesting removal of Saraki and his deputy are; Senators Abu Ibrahim, Kabir Marafa, Ajayi Boroffice, Olugbenga Ashafa and Suleiman Hunkuyi.

In the suit with reference number FHC/ABJ/CS/651/2015, the senators are seeking removal of the Senate president and his deputy on the grounds that the June 9, 2015 election which saw them both into office shortly after the proclamation of the 8th senate was conducted using a forged version of the Senate Standing Orders.
