Cleric, Others Arraigned For Selling Baby For N60, 000

Four persons among them a 69-year-old reverend, were yesterday arraigned before an Ebute-metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for allegedly selling a month and 18 days old baby boy for N60,000.

The co-accused persons are the mother of the baby, Joy Uzochukwu, 27, an auxiliary nurse, Margret Obinwa, 49 and Chibuzor Ogbonna, 50, who is said to be the father of the baby.

It was learnt that while, Uzochukwu faces a two-count charge of conspiracy of human trafficking and selling of a new born baby, Obinwa, faces a one count charge of purchasing the baby.

Similarly, the father of the baby, Dike was not spared. He was alleged to have failed to use all reasonable means to prevent the commission of the offence by the mother of the baby and the auxiliary nurse.
