Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information has described CNN reportage on Lekki shootings as misinformation and a great disservice to the people of Nigeria.

CNN on Wednesday, November 18 released a report detailing how Nigerian Army fired live ammunition at peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020.

CNN traced some of the bullets picked up by protesters to Serbian origin.

According to documents obtained from Serbian authorities, Nigerian Army purchased some of the rifles fired during Lekki shootings in 2005.

Reacting to the report, Lai Mohammed claimed the international media misinformed global viewers based on unverified videos circulating on social media.

He condemned CNN for excluding report of looting and vandalism of over 200 government offices and vehicles in their reportage.

The Information Minister has since called for sanctions on CNN, accusing the international media of going against the ethics of journalism.

Lai Mohammed’s comment has earned him a heavy backlash with citizens mocking him for threatening to sanction international media.

@omojuwa

Sanction CNN? LOL. If CN N could be sanctioned, Donald Trump would have done it long before Lai Mohammed considered it.

Whatever CN N served with that extraordinary & impressive fact-based Lekki Shooting report, they’ve served Trump a million more. Live with it or get serious.

@mORRIS_monye

CNN that literally fought the President of the United States to a standstill is who Lai Mohammed wants to “take action” on.

Even Abacha dare not take action on CNN even at the height of Ogoni 9 execution

Does Lai Mohammed really want to do this?
