Photos: Collapsed Building kills five in Lekki

A few years ago a spate of collapsed buildings hit the country with many people losing their lives. Reports indicate that there has been another in Lagos. A five storey building collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday, at Lekki Garden Estate, within Ikate Elegushi area, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
There have been at least five unidentified dead bodies reported to have been recovered so far from the rubble. The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA,Mr. Michael Akindele, who confirmed the report, said that in more optimistic news, six persons have been rescued so far . It was gathered that the collapsed building was completed merely a year ago.
According to Akindele, the incident occurred around 5 am, during the heavy rainfall that occurred in various parts of Lagos today. He was quoted as saying:
So far, we have recovered five dead bodies and six persons have also been rescued. Though, we cannot ascertain the total number of trapped people, but rescue operation is still on-going”.

Rescue operations are being conducted by responders such as; National Emergency management Authority, NEMA, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Civil Defence Corp, Merchant Navy and members of the state police command.

Further investigations will be carried out to ascertain exactly what happened to bring about this tragic incidence.
