The death toll increased after two more people died in hospital, according to Blu Radio.

Seven of the dozens of injured victims were in a serious condition, with burns covering up to 90 per cent of their bodies, the radio station quoted a health official in the city of Barranquilla as saying.

The death toll had initially been given as seven after the truck veered off the road and turned on its side near the town of Tasajera in the Magdalena region on July 6. Dozens of people rushed with containers to steal fuel from the truck, which then exploded.
