A commercial motorcyclist, 27, Malami Abdullahi of Kasarawa Area, Sokoto and a teenager of Gobirawa area of the state, were on Thursday arraigned in a Sokoto Magistrates’ Court over alleged homosexuality.

The Chief Magistrate, Abubakar Adamu, ordered the remand of the accused in prison, saying the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.

Adamu adjourned the case until June 11 for mention and possible transfer to a court of competent jurisdiction.

The accused persons are facing a two-count charge of unnatural offence to which the first accused pleaded not guilty while the second pleaded guilty.

The Prosecutor, Abubakar Tambuwal, had told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on May 7.

Tambuwal said that they were caught intentionally having sexual intercourse on three occasions on Kantin Fodio Road, Sokoto, against the order of nature.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 97 and 284 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
