Community leader in Osogbo bags 12 months imprisonment for fraud

An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court, Osun on Monday sentenced a 50-year -old community leader, Mustapha Nasiru to 12 months imprisonment for fraud.

Nasiru, who is the Baale Owode of Osogbo and a member of Ataoja Council was arraigned on a three – count charge bothering on fraud and threat to life.

The Bale pleaded guilty and pleaded the court for leniency.

The Magistrate, Mrs Amina Olayade, ordered the convict to be kept in Ilesa Prison due to the magnitude of the offences committed or pay N20, 000 option of fine.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Taiwo Adegoke, had told the court that the convict committed the offences sometimes in May 2016 at Owode area, Osogbo.

Adegoke said the convict who happened to be one of the chiefs to the Oba Ataoja of Osogboland fraudulently collected N650,000 from one Prophet Adeyeye with intent to sell two plots of land located at Owode area.

“The Bale collected the sum of N650,000 from the complainant knowing that the land did not belong to him.

“The accused even threatened to kill the complainant when he asked for refund of his money,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said the offences committed contravened Sections 419, 390(9) and 86 of the Criminal Code Cap Fraud 0l 11 Laws of Osun, 2003.  (NAN)
