It has been revealed that four governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have met with opposition lawmakers in the National Assembly to strategise on how the party can influence its propositions for comprehensive amendments to the 1999 constitution as well as the Electoral Act.

A reliable source who disclosed this also said “the meeting was also an attempt to respond to development in the National Assembly following the emergence of the Kawu Baraje faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)”.

The four Progressive Governors which included Adams Oshiomhole (Edo State); Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti state); Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa State), and Kashim Shettima(Borno State) were said to have held the discussions at the Lagos Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro District in Abuja.

The proposed amendments include issues bordering on state police; local government autonomy; local government autonomy; revenue sharing formula and immunity clause and they also discussed issues pertinent to ongoing nationwide registration of members.

“We met with our members in the National Assembly on some fundamental amendments to the constitution and the Electoral Act. We have mandated them to go and check the loopholes in the Electoral Act.

“Do not forget that the Electoral Act is crucial to the successful conduct of the 2015 poll. This is an area we will accord priority.

“We need to task our members in the National Assembly so that by the time we take control of the majority in the legislature, we know how to push for these amendments. We are hopeful that very soon the opposition will be in charge of the National Assembly”, he said.

“We also discussed with our members in the National Assembly plans by some of their colleagues to defect to the APC. We obviously cannot shy away from this reality in view of recent development in the National Assembly and the PDP”, the source further revealed.

However, it was learnt that there may be more as soon as the party deems it fit to address the issues because the discussion  is still ongoing with the APC lawmakers.

The session was said to have been used to take advantage of the split of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to re-strategise the party’s political plans.

Meanwhile, the Interim National Publicity Secretary, APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed of the party has described the raging political crisis of the PDP as rocking the Peoples Democratic Party is beyond reconciliation.

Mohammed addressed a congregation that attended the 8th edition of Town Hall meeting and graduation ceremony of Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Scheme organised by the representative of Lagos-Central senatorial disctrict, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu on Friday.

He stated that the “PDP has broken into pieces” while describing the two events that ushered in the crises on July 31st and August 31st this year, as a watershed in the history of Nigeria.

He said the August 31 incident, signaled  the end of PDP’s regime in the country because that would be the first time seven governors and other party’s stalwarts walked out on a sitting President in the history of Nigeria.
