All Progressives Congress Volunteers Group has urged President Muhammadu Buhari ‘to come up with a policy statement or even a law to control birth,’ because the country cannot afford the alarming population growth.
The group’s National Coordinator, Mr. Olusegun Bamgbose said this during a news conference on Saturday at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Lagos.
He said “We cannot afford to leave the population growth uncontrolled.
“Our attempts to find lasting solution to the problem of unemployment may be a mirage without controlling our population growth. In a situation where our resources are depleting, we cannot afford not to check the population growth.
“The government must look into the issue of controlling birth as a matter of urgency. We are optimistic that the Buhari administration will make the difference, but something must be done about our population growth.”
The group also commended the President’s renewed efforts to fight insurgency, Bamgbose said “We equally appreciate his determination to make Boko Haram history in Nigeria. Foreign investment will be non-existent where there is no guarantee for security of lives and property. We want to give him pass mark for his performance. His emergence is a blessing to Nigeria.”
