The Police Command in Ondo State on Tuesday, warned youths in the state to desists from criminal act in the interest of peace and their future.

The Police Public Relations Office (PPRO) for the command in the state, SP Femi Joseph, gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone in Okitipupa.

He was reacting to the arrest and parading of a suspected arsonist who razed nine family members because his girl friend allegedly jilted him.

NAN reports the suspect (name withheld), fled after the scene after he razed his girl friend and other eight family members with fire on April 22 in Igbodigo, Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, is believed to be a suitor of one Titi Sunmonu.

He was later apprehended by the police in Ijebu-Ode in Ogun, following investigation while trying to flee from lawful arrest after the alleged heinous crime.

Joseph also told NAN that the overreaction of the suspect, over the jilting of his girlfriend, had put his future in jeopardy.

“I think his case is more of psychological because how can someone roast the whole family because he was jilted by just a girl friend.

“We visited the hospital yesterday to see the lady, (Sunmonu), her chances of survival is slim because she cannot raise her hand or voice.

“People are advised to desist from over reacting that can further bring out criminal acts and put their future in ruins,“Joseph said.

The Police spokesman also confirmed that the suspect, who confessed to the crime, was an ex-convict who escaped through  jailbreak. (NAN)
