Against the backdrop that he committed abomination, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has said he did nothing wrong by crowning his wife.
The traditional ruler, whose kingdom is in Osun State, said he was only following in the footsteps of the progenitor of Yoruba race, Oduduwa, who crowned his wife Olokun.
“Did Oduduwa commit an abomination by crowning his queen? I crowned my wife in respect of what Oduduwa did to Olokun, his wife. The only exception was that oloris (queens) never put up the most sacred crown. No king dares such. Before you accuse Oluwo, did Oduduwa equally desecrate his stool by crowning his wife?” Oluwo said in a Friday statement.
The first class monarch said it was his responsibility to resuscitate some long-forgotten practices of the founder of the race.
“Most times, some try to kill educative and evidential practices because they don’t like the originator. If you don’t like Oluwo, do you hate Oduduwa?” he added.
“Oduduwa was the first symbol of authority in Yoruba land. He crowned Olokun as evidential in the picture. Just like his husband, Olokun was responsible and carried the paraphernalia of monarchy with his husband.
“Oloris (queens) need crown most now when civilization is at its peak. But with crown, the respect is intact.
“Same should applicable to the queen. Some can even woo oloris because there is no symbol of distinction. But merely seeing the crown, it is a message even to the blind and the deaf.”
