Coronavirus Death Toll Rises Over 10,000, Over 200,000 People Infected

A total number of 10,080 deaths has occurred as a result of the global outbreak of coronavirus.

According to an AFP tally collated from an official data at 10:30 GMT Friday, over 200, 000 people have been infected by the disease so far.

 

The death toll in Europe is 4,932, Asia 3,431, China 3,248, Iran with 1,43, 3 while Italy, being the most infected has recorded 3,405 deaths.

The Federal Government has stated that diplomats, returning Nigerians and foreigners who are resident in Nigeria are exempted from the restrictions placed on the 13 countries with a high infection rate of coronavirus.

 

This was disclosed by the Presidential Task Force for the Control of Coronavirus on Thursday, who made clarifications in response to concerns and frequently asked questions disclosed by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

 

The inter-ministerial committee said;

 

“Following the announcement of travel restriction measures taken by the Federal Government to contain and manage the spread of COVID-19 on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, the presidential task force has, as part of the continuing engagement with members of the public, found it necessary to provide answers to the following frequently asked questions.”

 

The task force explained that the restrictions “means you will not be allowed into the country if you live in or have visited these countries in the last fifteen (15) days.

 

Regarding Nigerians returning home, the task force said: “you will be allowed in but subject to supervised self-isolation for Fourteen (14) days after arrival.”

 

For diplomats and nationals holding a foreign passport, “ you will be allowed into Nigeria but subject to supervised self-isolation for Fourteen days after arrival.”
