UPDATE: Coronavirus In Nigeria: Numbers Hit 44

The number of cases of coronavirus in Nigeria has shot up to 44 on Tuesday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has announced.

 

The NCDC who disclosed this known on its official Twitter handled said “two new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: one in the Federal Capital Territory and one in Bauchi.

 

“The cases have travel history to Germany and the United Kingdom.

“As of 06:25 pm on the 24th of March, there are 44 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. Two have been discharged with one death.”

 

The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has, it a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus disease, ordered that all markets and stores in Lagos state should be closed down, effective from Thursday, March 26.

 

However, the governor who disclosed this in a press conference coronavirus, made some exemptions on the order, which includes markets and stores in the business of selling foodstuff, water and medical equipment.

 

He said;

 

“It is not a total lockdown, we still want people on essential services to go about their normal activities.

 

“We are trying to de-centralise markets in Lagos. This is why we want to use some of our closed schools as markets, so people can buy food and medicine without going a long distance.

 

“It is only when you are alive that you can talk about economics and finance.”
