Some 20 youths in Kaduna on Monday commenced training in modern tailoring techniques, under the Federal Government’s Cotton Value Chain programme.

The training is organised under the Federal Government’s machine operation scheme in collaboration with the Indian Government.

Mr Ridip Huzuri, the Indian government facilitator, said at the opening that it would boost activities in the cotton and garment sector.

Huzuri said the programme would enhance youth employment, and assured Nigerians that the scheme would be sustained for more youths to benefit.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry Development, Dr Manzo Daniel-Maigari, urged the participants to take advantage of the programme to become self-reliant.

The commissioner said the training was capable of turning the participants into employers of labour.

He commended the federal and the Indian governments for choosing Kaduna for the programme.

Daniel-Maigari said that the Kaduna State Government was ready to partner with various cotton processing companies to create more jobs for the youth.
