Court Adjourns Trial of Gospel Music Promoter Eezee Tee to September 26

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday adjourned further hearing in the ongoing trial of music promoter Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod, popularly known as Eezee Tee, to September 26, 2025.
Eezee Tee, who is also the former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, is facing a seven-count amended charge alongside his company, Eezee Global Concepts Limited. The charges, filed by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), revolve around alleged foreign exchange malpractice and money laundering involving several hundred thousand dollars.
The case, originally before Justice Owoeye, was later reassigned to Justice Aneke for continuation.
According to the EFCC, one of the charges alleges that ThankGod, who is not an authorised foreign exchange dealer licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, unlawfully negotiated a foreign exchange transaction with an individual — a violation of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act.
At Friday’s proceedings, the prosecution, led by Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, called its first witness, Mohammed Timta. However, defence counsel Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, informed the court that both parties were in advanced talks to reach an out-of-court settlement.
Ojukwu requested more time to finalise the negotiations, noting that if talks failed, the case would proceed to full trial. Justice Aneke granted the request and adjourned the matter until September 26 for further hearing.
