A State High Court in Oyo State has nullified the installation of 21 kings by the State Government.
Justice Olajumoke Aiki ruled on Friday that the review of the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration and other Related Chieftaincies in Ibadan land by the Justice Akintunde Boade Review Commission, which was set up by the Oyo State Government was unconstitutional, illegal, null, void and of no effect.
The commission had recommended the appointment of more kings in Ibadan, a recommendation which Governor Abiola Ajimobi acted on to appoint 21 more kings mostly from the Olubadan-in-council.
A former Governor of the state and Osi Olubadan, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, had approached the court to declare the composition and recommendation of the review commission illegal.
The court ruled that sections 10 , 12 and 25 of the Oyo State Chiefs Law did not empower the governor, who was joined as co-defendant, to review the Olubadan chieftaincy declaration, while also restraining the government from accepting and implementing the reports of the commission.
