A Federal High court sitting in Maitama, Abuja has ordered the immediate release of the international passport belonging to former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

Adeniyi Ademola, the presiding judge gave the order after Dasuki’s legal counsel Joseph Daodu prayed the court to release his client’s travelling documents who is scheduled for a medical appointment outside the country.

Daodu argued that his client, Dasuki whose reputation of integrity precedes him, will not abscond from trial upon  release of his travelling documents.

However, prosecuting counsel Mohammed Diri asked the court to dismiss the application as the medical trip will stall the trial of the former NSA. He also staed that investigation on the money laundering charges will be delayed if the accused is not around.

The Judge surprisingly dismissed Diri’s argument as he granted the release of the former NSA’s travelling documents. Justice Ademola stated the prosecuting counsel lacked valid reasons why the accused should not embark on his medical trip.

In his ruling, Ademola granted Sambo Dasuki a bail of self-recognizance which implies that the former NSA was granted a bail without conditions.

Ademola however gave a condition for the release of Dasuki’s passport, he ordered the NSA’s legal counsel must sign an undertaking to ensure his client appears in court on the appointed date of trial.

The Judge adjourned the hearing date for the application of Dasuki’s secret trial to November 16. It would be noted that the prosecuting counsel applied for a secret trial of the former NSA.
