Court remands driver for reckless driving, knocking down pedestrian

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered that a commercial bus driver, Amidu Adeyeye, 37, who drove in a reckless manner and knocked down a woman, be remanded in prison, pending sentencing.

Magistrate F.O. Hughes, ordered that Adeyeye, who resides in Ajegunle, Lagos should be remanded in the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, after the pleaded guilty to reckless driving and knocking down a pedestrian.

Hughes adjourned the case until July 23 for review of the facts of the case and sentencing.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on the Agege  Road, Oshodi in Lagos on June 8.

Samuel alleged that Adeyeye drove a Volkswagen LT bus with registration no. GGE 726 XS in a reckless and dangerous manner on a public highway and knocked down Mariam Jubril, who fractured her leg.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 19 (1), and 20 of the Road Traffic Law, Laws of Lagos State, 2012.
