Court remands man over murder of traditional ruler

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered the remand of  42-year-old man, Omoniyi Stephen, over alleged murder.

The accused, whose address was not provided, is being tried for murder.

The prosecutor, Johnson Okunade, alleged that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 20 in Ikole-Ekiti.

Okunade said that the accused murdered Oba Gbedebo Ibiloye Olowoselu‎, the Onise of Odo-Oro Ekiti, in Ikole-Local Government Area.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 319 of Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending legal advice from office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The accused plea was not taken by the court.

The defence counsel, Mr Adefolaju Ayobioloja, application for bail was refused by the court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, however, ordered the remand of the  accused in prison and adjourned the case until Sept. 21 for mention. (NAN)
