A federal high court sitting in Abuja has placed a restriction on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from de-registering 31 political parties.
The Herald recalls that INEC had announced the de-registration of 74 parties due to failure to meet up with standard requirements of the electoral body.
However,Justice Anwuli Chikere, in a ruling, said INEC having failed to oppose the application by the applicants, the affected political parties had the legal right which must be protected.
