Court sentences teenager to 3 months in prison for stealing Church musical instruments

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced an 18-year-old boy, Jimoh Ibrahim to three months in prison for stealing musical instruments from the Cherubim and Seraphim Church.

Magistrate Modupe Afeniforo, sentenced Ibrahim, after he pleaded guilty to theft.

Afeniforo, however, gave the defendant an option to pay a fine of N5,000.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on March 20 at about 5 p.m. on Omisanjana street, Ado-Ekiti.

He said the defendant stole two hand belsl and three drum set plates valued at N20,000 from one Cherubim and Seraphim Church on Omisanjana street, Ado-Ekiti.

Afeniforo said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

Akinwale said he was apprehended and was taken to the station, adding that the defendant was a serial offender.

The prosecutor said that all the items stolen by the defendant had been recovered.  (NAN)
