Court slams N100,000 bail on tricycle rider for reckless driving

A 38-year-old Tricycle rider, Rabiu Isah, on Wednesday appeared in a Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for alleged reckless driving.

The police charged Isah, who loves in Wuye, Abuja with two counts of dangerous driving and driving without a licence.

The Prosecution Counsel, Ukagha Ijeoma, told the court that on June 29  at about 9. 20 p.m.  Isah drove his tricycle with Registration LSR 753 QK,  on the Karmo-Kado public highway Abuja, in a dangerous and reckless manner.

Ijeoma alleged that the defendant who drove the tricycle without considering other road users, lost control of the tricycle and hit an oncoming Mazda car with registration AX 953 GKB, driven by one OSas Imoisi.

The prosecutor also said that as a result of the accident, the Mazda was damaged.

Ijeoma said that during police investigations, Isah could not give a satisfactory account of himself.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 28 (2), 10 (1) and 21 the Road Traffic Act.

Isah, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with a reasonable surety in like sum.

Maiwada ordered that the surety that the surety must present valid means of identification and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the case until July 16, for further hearing. (NAN)
