COVID-19 Committee Chair, Members Test Positive In Kano

Four members of the Kano State COVID-19 Task Force, including its co-chair, Prof. Abdulrazak Garba Habib, have tested positive for the virus.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kano State Ministry of Health, Hadiza Mustapha Namadi, confirmed this in a Friday statement issued on behalf of the health commissioner, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa.

The commissioner advised members of the public to observe social distancing rules and stay at home to avoid contracting and spreading the virus.

He assured that the Kano State Government would continue to take necessary measures to rid the state of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Daily Trust reported that the Chairman, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, and dozens of members of the Committee had gone into self-isolation upon suspecting Habib’s status,

Some other committee members gathered to be on self-isolation include: Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, Secretary of the committee, Dr. Imam Wada, Dr. Amina Abdullahi Ganduje and the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, among others.

Other members of the committee have since followed suit, a government source disclosed.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Kano has 27 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, April 17.
