The Government of Enugu State has approved a special package for Doctors and Health workers in the State to boost the fight against COVID-19 in Nigeria.
The government has also mobilised volunteers and town criers to carry out an enlightenment campaign about COVID-19 in the rural areas of the state.
The Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi approved the immediate provision of Group Life/Group Personal Accident Assurance policy for every medical doctor employed by the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu.
Issuing a statement to the effect through the secretary to the state government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, the governor said the life insurance package will also be extended to every doctor and health worker employed with the Enugu State Ministry of Health.
The governor also disclosed that fire fighters, All staff of Enugu State Emergency Management Agency as well as individuals involved with the delivery of essential services will be included.
The Governor said this was being done to inspire commitment and productivity among health workers in the state in the face of a looming COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
The Enugu State Governor also directed the Presidents General of all Town Unions in the state to mobilise their members as well as volunteers and town criers to start an enlightenment campaign in the rural areas.
The governor gave instructions that residents of every rural community must be made aware of the importance of strict adherence to the protocol for the prevention of COVID-19 in the State.

They were also instructed to interface with the Enugu State Multi-Sectoral Rapid Response Team and the Ministry of Health for Materials to use for the enlightenment campaign.
Finally the Governor revealed that the government of Enugu State has made provisions and logistical support available to the groups to make their assignments easier to carry out.
