The World Health Organisation (WHO) has responded to a claim by a Cameroonian medical doctor, Dr. Kameni Pierre, that he was healed of COVID-19 by Prophet TB Joshua ministering through his church’s satellite TV channel, Emmanuel TV.

The doctor, a gynecologist and obstetrician, said he was at an isolation centre suffering from COVID-19 when he made a video call to receive prayer during an interactive programme on the channel.

Dr. Pierre claimed that after displaying his COVID-19 positive result, TB Joshua began to pray for him and he “vomited out” the disease.

Days after the online encounter, he said he overcame the disease, displaying his negative test result.

A Cameroonian journalist, Simon Ateba during an interactive media session asked WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, WHO Executive Director of Health Emergencies, Dr. Michael Ryan and other WHO officials present if it were possible to be healed of the disease through prayers.

Responding, the WHO DG said, “We know many religious leaders who would really advise their followers to follow their faith and at the same time use science. The two do not contradict; they go together… We will call on all religious leaders to be in this fight and save lives.”

In his own submission, Ryan said, “Certainly, spiritual leadership is very important in a time like this.”

He added that the WHO would collaborate with bodies like The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) to combat the virus.
