Vice Secretary-General of the federation Lawrence Banda, who issued the commendation on Tuesday, described China’s efforts as advancing the ultimate goal of human existence amid the pandemic.

“It is in the best interest of the world to promote the vision of a community with shared future for mankind because global peace and prosperity depend on it.

“Such calls deserve the support of the global community because they seek to bring about global peace, prosperity as well as security.

“It is good to note that China has been consistent in promoting the vision of a community with shared future for mankind,” Banda said.

According to him, it is an inescapable truth that no one country can fully realise its aspirations without the support of the international community .

“It is a fact that the world is now one big space with many interlinked players.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that we need to work together as a global community in order to fight challenges, such as poverty and disease,” he said.

Banda further said that triumphing over challenges such as COVID-19 will require nations to work in unison at all times.

Zambia is seeking to launch a crowdfunding initiative to help raise money for projects and ease businesses’ access to finance.

The Economics Association of Zambia has indicated that it will launch the crowdfunding initiative, the practice of funding a project or venture by raising small amounts of money from a huge number of people through the internet.

It is a form of crowdsourcing and alternative finance.

Commenting on the initiative, social economist Kelvin Chisanga said it was a welcome move, but it requires more work because currently, banks in countries like Zambia have not yet adopted such a service.

According to him, crowdfunding was an alternative source of raising finances for project development which Africa needs especially in the current scenario where the COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged economies, resulting in constrained finances.

He further called on commercial banks to diversify their service portfolios by embracing new technologies such as crowd-funding in order to boost access for finance by businesses.

In carrying out the initiative, the expert says Zambia could cooperate with China.

“We all know that China has a vibrant internet governance system as well as a high electronic device system,” he said.

He added that China could help African countries through building robust Information and Communication Technologies platforms that Africa needs.
