Customs Arrests Passenger with $767,500 At Airport

The Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has arrested a passenger at the airport with $767500.

NCS in a statement identified the passenger as Yusuf Taofeeq Olanrewaju who was suspected to be a money launderer with passport number A03758685.

It said Taofeeq was arrested while trying to board an Emirates flight number EK782 to Hong Kong via Dubai through the E wing of the Lagos airport.

The passenger and money have been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for further investigation.

Mrs. Thelma Williams, the public relations officer of the NCS at the Airport, said although the passenger declared the said amount on the prescribed forms CDF1A and CDF1B, he could not explain satisfactorily the source of the money.

Williams explained that upon investigations by the Customs, the passenger was observed to be a frequent traveler.

“On May, 26, 2012, he traveled with $228000 to Hong Kong.

“On July, 21, 2012, he traveled with $395000 to Hong Kong.

“On September 15, 2012, he traveled with $525000 to Hong Kong.

“On November 3, 2012, he traveled with $10000 to China. “And this present case, January, 10, 2013, when he traveled with $767500 to Hong Kong” she said.
