The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Area Command said it had impounded a trailer with 619 jerry cans of imported vegetable oil and other contraband items worth millions of naira.

The command’s Comptroller, Mr Abba Kasim, disclosed this while displaying the items before newsmen in Kano on Friday.

He said the vehicle was intercepted by the officers of the command in Birnin Kudu town in Jigawa on Thursday night, May 18 following intelligence report.

He said the other items discovered in the truck included 139 cartons of turkey oil, 242 bags of mosquito coil and 24 cartons of cigarettes.

Others were five cartons of macaroni, 100 cartons of spaghetti and three cartons of `tuak’’ lighter.

He said no arrest was made as the driver and other persons in vehicle abandoned it and took to their heels.

According to him, the command had yet to ascertain the value of the seized items.
He restated the commitment of the command in the fight against smuggling saying his officers would not rest on their oars until the illegal activities of smugglers was brought to an end.
He, however, called on the people in the area to continue to support the service in order to achieve the desired objective. (NAN)
