Davido Calls for Release of VeryDarkMan Following EFCC Arrest

Nigerian music superstar Davido has joined the growing chorus of voices calling for the release of controversial social media critic, VeryDarkMan, who was arrested on Friday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

VeryDarkMan, known for his outspoken commentary on social and political issues, was reportedly taken into custody following a visit to a GTBank branch in Abuja. While the EFCC has yet to officially disclose the reason for his arrest, speculation has swirled online, particularly in relation to a video he posted earlier that day complaining about an alleged unauthorized deduction from his mother’s account.

It remains unclear whether he was apprehended inside the bank premises or after leaving.

The arrest has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians—celebrities and everyday users alike—demanding his release and questioning the motive behind the detention.

Adding his voice to the movement, Davido took to his X (formerly Twitter) account, writing: “Outside all the noise, it’s good to see that the good one does actually impacts lives and people actually appreciate! The support I’m seeing for VDM everywhere is encouraging, makes one want to do more for the masses. FREE MY GUY.”
