The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has officially recognised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the new leader of the party in the state, following his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Oborevwori, who formally joined the APC on Monday, April 28, 2025, was affirmed as the party’s state leader in a statement released by the APC’s Delta State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo.

“This position is not subject to debate or contention,” the statement read. “It aligns with the APC’s longstanding tradition and leadership structure nationwide, where the sitting governor under the APC platform assumes the role of party leader in the state.”

The party noted that Vice President Kashim Shettima publicly confirmed this stance during Oborevwori’s defection event, reinforcing the party’s national endorsement of his leadership.

In a stern warning to internal dissenters, the APC cautioned that it would not tolerate individuals attempting to challenge Oborevwori’s new role. “We find it strange, arrogant, and reprehensible for anyone to continue to parade himself as the leader of the APC in Delta State,” the statement said. “Such actions are divisive and will be firmly resisted.”

The party added that any efforts to undermine the current leadership would attract serious sanctions, urging all members to align behind Governor Oborevwori and support his M.O.R.E. agenda for development and governance.

“We remain united behind His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori,” the APC concluded, calling on members to shun division and embrace the administration’s vision for sustainable growth in Delta State.
