Rival cult groups in Okwagbe community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State clashed over the weekend, leaving a 23-year old man, Victor Odoye, dead.

The cause of the clash, which took place at Saint Vincent College is yet to be ascertained. It was learnt that the warring cultists fled upon sighting police operatives who stormed the school.

Ten persons have already been arrested by the police, although the leader of one of the cult groups, an ex-militant named Solomon is said to be on the run.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Famous Ajieh confirmed the incident and Odoye’s death, saying that dangerous weapons were used by the cultists.

“The police received information that two cult groups fought themselves with dangerous weapons at Saint Vincent College, Okwagbe, and one Victor Odoye, aged 23, was killed by cultists during the cult war.

“Police swung into action immediately and with the help of Okwagbe vigilante men, 10 of the hoodlums, aged between 18 and 27, were arrested,” he said.

He said the police had launched a manhunt for the fleeing hoodlums, adding that  two daggers were recovered at the scene.
