Delta ‘pastor’ commits suicide over accusation of sleeping with neighbour’s underage daughter

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the demise of one Jagbefume Oriagioge, who allegedly committed suicide after he was accused of raping his neighbour’s underage daughter.

Although called ‘pastor’, Oriagioge was until his demise said to be a dedicated usher in one of the pentecostal churches in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that the victim hanged himself in his room at Iregwa Street, Agbor, on July 5, 2021.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Bright Edafe said that the corpse has been deposited at the mortuary of Central Hospital, Agbor for post-mortem.

He added that investigation was ongoing over the matter.

Meanwhile, a neighbour said that Oriagioge might have ended his life as a result of the shame brought about by the controversy.

“The deceased was suspected to have ended his life as he could no longer bear the shame of allegedly having carnal knowledge of his neighbour’s female child (minor) and which was discussed at the community palace.

“The deceased was somebody who was not free with people to really tell who he was. We called him ‘pastor’ because we felt he was one.

“But the news of him sleeping with the female child of his neighbour is what we do not understand and now he has ended his life perhaps out of shame,” the neighbour said under condition of anonymity.
