The Department of State Services (DSS) has released eight of the 12 detained aides of Sunday Igboho after 61 days in detention.

Counsel to the detainees, Pelumi Olajengbesi disclosed this on Monday.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on August 4, 2021, granted bail to the detainees.

However, efforts by Olaengbesi to secure their release proved futile until Monday.

Before their release, the lawyer had threatened to file a case of contempt of court against the secret police.

Recall that DSS invaded the home of the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho on July 1.

During the operation, two of Igboho’s aides were killed and 12 others were arrested.

Speaking at a press conference in which the eight released persons were present, the lawyer charged the DSS to also release the remaining four detainees because they had been granted bail by the court.

He added that the DSS must account for the two aides killed.
