A yet-to-be-identified driver conveying Automotive Gas Oil, also known as diesel, to a destination in the state lost control of the vehicle and crashed around the New Road bus stop in Apapa, Lagos.

Confirming the incident, the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the suspected cause of the accident was brake failure.

He added that emergency responders, including the LASEMA response team and officials of the state fire service, were on ground to salvage the situation by saving the driver.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the accident led to a temporary gridlock, adding that normal activities resumed on the road after a heavy-duty equipment was deployed in the area to recover the fallen truck.

He said, “Distress calls were received concerning the incident and upon arrival, it was confirmed that a truck loaded with AGO had fallen due to suspected brake failure.

“This resulted in the obstruction of free vehicular activities along the corridor. A multi-stakeholder team comprising the agency’s responders, LRU firefighters, Lagos State Fire Service, LASTMA, LSNC and the Nigerian Police worked together to evacuate the impediment off the road.

“The agency’s heavy duty equipment was used for recovery, while the area has been blanketed to prevent any secondary incident. Operation concluded with no loss of life  or injury.”
