Dino Melaye: Anti-Corruption crusader by day, vicious wife beater at night?

3 Min Read

If the allegations contained in the divorce petition estranged wife of Dino Melaye, Tokunbo Melaye (nee Fabiyi) are of merit, then Mr. Melaye should simply pack his bags and move to the North Pole.

There have been several character flaws brought to the fore about Mr. Melaye in the past, however these round of allegations take the icing on the cake.

Aside the petition, there is another damning report signed by E.E Fabiyi where Melaye is accused of amongst other atrocious acts, of beating his wife so bad and disfiguring her face that she needed cosmetic surgery on her nose. The family also accused Melaye of telling his “many girlfriends” that his wife was dead.

The petition accuses Melaye of amongst other weapons, beating his wife with an AC wire, a metal rod a laptop (don’t ask) and ofcourse his fists. Mr. Melaye is a big man. He once held off several members of the House of Representatives in a boxing match with antics that would have made a street fighter green with envy.

The petition also states that he assaulted his wife whilst she was 5 months pregnant, and once accidentally beat the baby whilst trying to beat the mother and that the baby needed hospital treatment for a swollen cranium.

This is the man that rallies scores of youth on Social Media and calls himself an anti-corruption crusader. This is the leader of the anti-corruption network.

This is a former House of Representatives member, who left the floor smiling after a boxing match. A ma whose father is an elder in the Apostolic Church of Nigeria.

One may ask, what do the allegations surrounding his personal life have to do with his public works? Well the jury is out on this, but people of questionable character do not always make good leaders.

Do Obama, Mandela or Clinton have histories of “bold and vicious” spousal abuse? Are they leaders of integrity? One expects this kind of alleged behaviour from the illiterate, from the poor, or from the frustrated. Not from a man who is trying to help Nigeria clean up its government.

If these allegations are even partially true, Melaye would do well to go and clean up his personal life and leave Nigerians alone to select true champions in the fight to clean up their country.
