Diplomatic Passports: NIS gives final warning to defaulters

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Martin Kure Abeshi has issued a final warning to all former political office holders and public servants still holding on to official and diplomatic passports to return them immediately or face the repercussions.

Abeshi said that failure to submit the passports to the headquarters of the Service may force the service to publish the names of defaulters in the media.

It will be recalled that President Buhari had in August directed the NIS to withdraw the passports from the affected persons.

After this directive was issued in August, a former Senator in possession of a diplomatic passport was reportedly arrested in Saudi Arabia after his claims of being an official of the Nigerian Embassy in the kingdom was found to be untrue.

At the Headquarters of the Service in Abuja on Wednesday, he told newsmen that only 200 persons had complied with the directive.

Furthermore, he stated that the NIS had recently lost three of its men in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorist sect in the North East.
