A police reforms advocate, Segun Awosanya aka Sega, has accused the Divisional Police Officer of Olosan Police Station, Mushin, Lagos of operating a kidnapping-for-ransom ring.

Awosanya, one of the champions of the #EndSARS campaign, made the allegations in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle on Monday morning.

He called on police authorities to call the erring DPO to order before his alleged actions, saying his alleged actions could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the area.

He said, “The DPO of Olosan Police station has been operating a Kidnapping racket for a while now. Arresting innocent citizens for no just cause and insisting on N20k minimum Ransom. If asked they will say they are acting on instruction of the Commissioner.

“Olosan Police Station is in Mushin. Mushin residents are peaceful people but can be violent if this injustice persists. The police officers at Olosan abducted a man who went to buy food yesterday night & have refused to release him without collecting ransom.

“Everyone involved MUST be arrested. Each day the New IGP postpones acting on the petition on thieving Commissioners of Police is costing us the lives of innocent citizens. The citizens will soon act to shut this down. Enough of this madness already.”

Giving an update on the status of the arrested men, Awosanya said, “The Captives have been set free after placing a call to necessary quarters but the Captors will not go unpunished. Deterrents must be set to ensure this (Impunity) ceases to be a Culture.”

Police authorities have yet to respond to the allegations raised.
